Known as the capital of the Yorkshire Wolds because of its position between Beverley, York and Bridlington this busy market town is a popular destination for East Yorkshire home hunters. The town is nestled in glorious countryside that has proved an inspiration to people for centuries, most notably and recently David Hockney.
Tracing its history back to the 1086 Domesday book, the town’s traditional agricultural base received a boost in the 19th century with the arrival of the Driffield Navigation (Canal) which, though no longer integral to the town’s economy, is still an important focal point. The town’s agricultural tradition continues today and the annual Driffield Show, which is the country’s largest one day agricultural festival, underlines its continuing relevance.
The arrival of the railway has ensured Driffield’s continued local eminence through to the present day. The town centre provides a good range of local and high street shops as well as pubs, restaurants, banks and supermarkets. Driffield is also able to boast a good selection of period property, both large and small, which has been supplemented by continued development over the intervening decades so there are now properties to suit all requirements.
The town is surrounded by a large number of attractive villages, many with their character shaped and enhanced by their Wolds setting. Some of the country’s finest houses can be found in the area at Burton Agnes and Sledmere. Thriving industrial estates including Kelleythorpe and Hutton Cranswick contribute to employment in the area and many residents commute to York and Hull amongst other areas.
A search for a property in East Yorkshire wouldn’t be thorough without a good look at Driffield and surrounds we look forward to helping you with it.
